Cracking the code on food labels

Updated: Oct 20, 2022

Reading labels on packaged foods can be confusing, but don't worry, we have a simple guide to reading labels.

This first guide is for packaged foods. Anything in the green, yellow/orange or red columns should be read "per 100g". This is usually the far right column. You want to find foods which have the most "green" components. Remember you are unlikely to find something which has all "green" components, so choose the one with the most.

While we all know water is our healthiest choice, sometimes its nice to have something with a little flavour. Check the sugar on your favourite drink to see if you might need to scale it back.

You can save these photos to your phone for a quick reminder of the best options when you're out and about.
